Cast Iron Sluice Gates
Structurally Cast. Precision Machined. Designed for Decades.
Overview
Fundametal Technologies offers rugged and long-lasting Cast Iron Sluice Gates designed for flow control in open channel, submerged, and pressurized conditions. These gates are fully machined, structurally optimized, and built using our in-house foundry and machining infrastructure in Oragadam and Ambattur, Tamil Nadu.
Available in a wide range of sizes, mounting styles, and pressure ratings, these gates are ideal for municipal STPs, effluent treatment plants, pumping stations, and irrigation systems. The use of modular patterns and rolled-thread spindles ensures low-cost customization and long-term performance.
Compliance & Standards
These gates are designed in full compliance with:
-
IS 13349 – Cast Iron Sluice Gate Specification (Bureau of Indian Standards)
-
AWWA C501 – American Water Works Standard for Cast Iron Gates
-
DIN 19569-4, DIN 3202-F3, DIN EN 1092-2, DIN EN 12266-1 – European standards for dimensions, flange interfaces, and leakage testing
-
DIN 103 – Thread profile standard for trapezoidal spindles
-
Note: While AWWA C501 is not mandatory for most Indian municipal projects, our designs incorporate its structural and leakage performance benchmarks as baseline criteria.
Design & Construction
-
Gate frames, slides, and thimbles are cast from high-grade Cast Iron, conforming to:
-
IS 210 FG 200 / FG 260 – Indian Standard for grey cast iron
-
ASTM A126 Class B / ASTM A48 Class 30/35 – Equivalent international grades
-
Small gates are cast as single-piece units, while medium and large gates are constructed from well-engineered bolted sections, offering design flexibility, ease of casting, and simplified logistics
-
All gates are dispatched in fully assembled condition, factory-aligned and sealed to ensure consistent performance and reduce installation time
-
Structural members are designed with appropriate safety margins to withstand hydrostatic pressures without compromising rigidity or sealing performance
-
Gate components are engineered to minimise deflection under pressure, ensuring sealing surfaces remain properly aligned and leak-tight in service
-
Seating faces are machined and fitted with bronze or stainless steel liners, providing durable and low-maintenance sealing
-
Slides are reinforced with integral ribbing and variable wall thickness, optimised for pressure rating and gate span
-
Wedge systems provide uniform sealing contact—side wedges are standard, with additional top and bottom wedges for unseating head applications
-
Slide guides prevent lateral movement and ensure full support in the open position
-
Thrust nut pockets are reinforced and drained to maintain structural integrity and smooth actuation
-
All sealing and load-bearing surfaces are precision-machined for consistent performance, ease of operation, and extended service life.
Pressure Rating
-
Fundametal’s Cast Iron Sluice Gates are structurally designed to handle a wide range of hydrostatic conditions, from low head to demanding pressure applications. Each gate is engineered based on site-specific head conditions, with appropriate ribbing, sealing strength, and spindle load capacity.
-
Pressure-specific designs are offered to suit gravity flow channels, sump intakes, and pressurized zones
-
Wall thickness, reinforcement ribs, and sealing interfaces are scaled and optimized to handle the intended load without deformation
-
Every gate design is verified for structural stability and long-term sealing performance under submerged or fluctuating head
Opening Configurations
Fundametal Cast Iron Sluice Gates are available in three standard configurations, selected based on site layout, access limitations, and operational needs:
-
Rising Spindle Type
-
The spindle moves vertically with the gate
-
Simple, rugged, and offers direct visual indication of gate position
-
Ideal for open-channel structures and above-ground installations
-
-
Non-Rising Spindle Type
-
The spindle remains fixed while the thrust nut moves along it
-
Suitable for confined or underground spaces where vertical clearance is restricted
-
Provided with sealed housings and stem guides as needed
-
-
Weir Type Gate
-
Allows water to overflow across the gate crest
-
Used in flow modulation, stormwater diversion, and level regulation
-
Can be operated manually or automated for overflow control
-
All gate types are compatible with multiple mounting and actuation systems, and can be customized based on application and site conditions.
Operating Options
Seal & Spindle Assembly
Each gate is equipped with a robust sealing and actuation system that ensures low leakage, smooth operation, and long service life.
-
Seating Faces: Machined and fitted with bronze or stainless-steel liners, providing metal-to-metal sealing for durability and wear resistance
-
Seal Material: Optional EPDM or Nitrile elastomeric seals are provided where additional sealing redundancy is required
-
Spindle Design:
-
Manufactured using thread rolling technology, not cutting, for improved fatigue life and surface finish
-
Complies with DIN 103 trapezoidal thread profile standards
-
Available in stainless steel or bronze, based on service environment
-
-
Thrust Nuts and stem guides are paired to the spindle with close-tolerance fit, reducing backlash and preventing misalignment during operation
Mounting Options
Our gates are available in multiple configurations to suit different installation conditions, whether embedded in new RCC structures or retrofitted into existing channels:
-
Wall Embedded Type
-
Frame or wall thimble is integrated into the civil structure during concrete pouring
-
Ideal for new construction with long-term installation requirements
-
-
Face Wall Mounted Type
-
Gate frame is bolted directly onto a finished concrete surface
-
Suitable for retrofitting or replacing old gates without civil reconstruction
-
-
Channel Wall Mounted Type
-
